I have a friend that wants to sell his '01 Coleman Cheyenne pup. He is the second owner and neither he nor the original owner ever stored it outside. He stores it in the garage open. It has never been cooked in or smoked in. Has A/C but no heat. No hot water on board. Awning and screen room included.
What would a fair price be for something like this? How close do NADA prices come to real-world prices?
The wife and I have entertained the thought of a pop-up for quite a while now and buying one from someone we know would be a plus. Thanks in advance for any and all help! I have an '02 Cheyenne with no AC but has a furnace and water heater. The Cheyennes are great campers and we can't wait to take ours out this spring/summer! You'll absolutley love it! The thing to check on with our particular year(s) model is the ABS roof.
The vast majority of them are fine. But about 10% had problems with sag, bowing, flexing, and delamination. Most of which occured a short time after the pups were new. So if it looks okay, buying 'as is' is probably fine, especially if its been stored inside. Because your potential '01 Cheyenne has the AC unit on top, esp. Check for any sag.
The Cheyenne is a 10 foot box and the ABS roofs didn't have as many problems in the shorter lengths. Mine has no issues at all.
But I don't want you to be in that unfortunate 10%- so check it out! Hope it works out for you! Mike and Bonnie 2001 Dodge Dakota 4x4 QC 2002 Coleman/Fleetwood Cheyenne. I have a 1996 Cheyenne that I purchased last year in ME/NH for $2000 and that is about $500 less than NADA. It was also from a friend that wanted to get rid of it because he was moving and he was doing me a favor because he knew I was looking and couldn't afford much. He probably could have sold it for between 2500-3000 had he tried to because he was the 3rd owner and it was really taken care of but he didn't need the extra cash.
Dave('74) Stacey('74)2 Boys '04 & '07 Duke 1999 96 Coleman Cheyenne and 05 Sienna. Edited by - MovingRightAlong on March 10 2009 08:42:34. We purchased a 2001 Cheyenne from an RV dealer in 2005.
It had no A/C, furnace or water pump. It was in good condition and we paid $3,600 for it. It was a trade in and the dealers was not really into pop ups so he let it go fairly cheap. I had an A/C put on and converted to a 12v water pump and traded it with in a year for our current camper.
The dealer gave me $4,100 trade in - almost everything I had put into the Cheyenne. I found out about the ABS issue after we purchased, but ours had no problems. It had a little bowing on the sides, but not enough to affect the seal. There were no blisters, cracks or sag to the top. As has been said, there were more problems with the 12' campers than the 10' campers I thought the Cheyenne was a nice layout and good camper. I really liked the front storage locker.
Our previous popups didn't have that feature back years ago. Steve & Deb (boys are grown & gone) Aspen & Riley (the 4 legged children) 05 Fleetwood Sequoia & lot's of bikes! Edited by - Luv2ridebikes on March 10 2009 17:14:42. COleman strongly recommends against covering the ABS roof when stored outside. The lack of ventilation is what accelerates the delamination and cracking.
Store it uncovered and slightly off level with the tongue jack so snow and water slide off. Mike and Bonnie 2001 Dodge Dakota 4x4 QC 2002 Coleman/Fleetwood Cheyenne. I purchased a 2001 Cheyenne last spring and gave $3500 for it. I invested about another $500 after purchase to fix a few minor items, but it was all money well spent. As for the roof issues, the 2001 came from the factory with added supports to eliminate/decrease sagging with or without AC. So I'd look at it, but you should be fine.
As for storing outside, you will find many that do and don't cover with the ABS roof. The ones that do cover though use a high quality breathable cover (Adco makes a good one). I cover mine with an Adco cover which cost me about $90.00 I think.
Good luck and happy camping. Chris & Theresa PUP 2000 Fleetwood Cheyenne TV 2001 Dakota 4.7L V8 Nights Camped in 2008=12. If you don't get much in the way of sustained freezing temps or snow, I wouldn't worry about covering it. Just crank the tongue high or low depending on which way you want the rain to flow off.
And you buy it and want to add heat, a heat strip for the A/C is an job on most RV A/C's. Steve & Deb (boys are grown & gone) Aspen & Riley (the 4 legged children) 05 Fleetwood Sequoia & lot's of bikes! IMHO I would say that is a bit high. HOWEVER, knowing how the pup was treated prior to you owning it is a big plus. I have a 96 Cheyenne, no AC and nothing extra special. We bought it in 2003 for $2400. The most important thing to remember is: is it worth $4000 for the memories you will create and share?
Frequently value is not an actual dollar amount, but rather the enjoyment received from the $ spent. My 96 has roof sag, delamination, you name it with the ABS roof, however the times we've had using it are really quite priceless. I am going to go camping for extended periods this summer with my kids, they don't seem to even know that the roof is not up to par. And during these times neither do I.
